Current weight: 268.3 lbs,
Total weight loss: 37.5 lbs.
Since my last post about three weeks ago, my weight has increased slightly (1.2 pounds). Holding steady, but definitely not a loss — which is a bit of a bummer. I’ve only weighed myself a few times, and the scale has been hovering in the high 260’s and low 270’s.
Over the last few days, I’ve been at a work conference, so I do consider it a positive that my weight basically stayed the same. I have dealt with work conference challenges before, which I think helped me this time. I avoided the many sweet and starchy temptations that seem to come with these meetings. Definitely a positive.
Fitbit Challenges
At the end of last year, I got a Fitbit which has been really helpful in tracking my progress. As you’ve probably guessed, I really like data and numbers. I wear my Fitbit daily.
Seeing the numbers over the last two months has been fun, but what I’ve really enjoyed is having some Fitbit challenges with family and friends. (Especially when I win:). Most of the challenges with my friends have a prize of a drink. So the loser buys the group a round of wine or martinis.
A huge incentive not to lose. #EgoTrumpsLazy
And the best part — I’ve discovered that Fitbit challenges have been helpful in combating one of my biggest challenges: laziness.
Yes, I will admit a slight tendency towards laziness. Although it’s not all bad — isn’t laziness the mother of invention??
I’m a hard worker and enjoy setting and reaching goals, but sometimes (many times?) my laziness wins. So … I’d rather throw pillows at the light switch than get up, walk across the room and turn it off. Or when I clear the table, I’ll create a leaning tower of Pisa with dishes to avoid making two trips. All pretty normal laziness behavior.

But during Fitbit step challenges, I’ve seen a new battle emerge: Lazy versus Ego.
And I’m happy to say that recently, Ego has been crushing Lazy.
As an example: During one 5 day challenge with friends, Friday night arrived. It was the last night of the challenge. I had just gotten home from a particularly long and bad day at work. I was looking forward to relaxing at home with a glass of wine to start the weekend. Then I checked my Fitbit app and current challenge.
Ugh. I was third out of four. And quite a few steps behind the leader. The steps between my wine glass and the bottle were definitely not going to be enough to win this Fitbit challenge…
The steps between my wine glass and the bottle are definitely not enough to win this Fitbit challenge... Click To TweetSo rather than sit on the couch, wine in hand to watch TV, I ate a light dinner and walked on the treadmill. After getting enough steps, I didn’t sync my Fitbit until later than night when I went to bed. My friends had no idea that I had gotten enough to take over the lead. The ultimate sneak attack.
It looks like I hate losing more than I like being lazy. Another Fitbit bonus.
