My Baseline Body Measurements
In addition to the scale and some non-scale health and fitness measures, I’m also going to be tracking my progress through good old fashioned body measurements. This way I can see exactly how many inches I am losing and where I’m losing them.
Baseline BMI
My starting weight is 305.8 pounds and my height is 5 feet 6 inches so that makes my starting BMI 49.4, which of course puts me well into the “obesity” category according to the NIH (which of course is no surprise):
BMI is not necessarily the best measure of health or fitness. There are many issues such as that it doesn’t take into account distribution of fat or body composition, both of which are really important. But, BMI is a good tool when it’s used in combination with others and an additional measure that I can track.
Baseline Body Measurements
At the start of this process, I took a bunch of different body measurements and documented them. I plan to remeasure them every three weeks and track the progress.
Here are my baseline main body measurements in inches:
These numbers seem so large — and I guess it’s because they are. A large amount of space to take up in this world, which I definitely feel sometimes. But it is somewhat shocking to see them written down. There is no escaping these numbers.
The only positive I can think of at this point is that these numbers will now go down … and go down for good. My goal now is to continue on this wellness endeavor and my quest for long-lasting health.
